Challenging Time Require New Attitudes

Monday, July 26, 2010

t’s no secret that we are going through some tough economic times. When you are losing your job and can’t pay your bills it is a very frightening proposition. Everything looks grim and it’s hard not to be depressed. An interesting thing about human ingenuity is that we become creative when faced with difficult circumstances. Indeed, it’s what life is all about.

It’s time to tell a different story. It is understandable that we will be present to fear when challenged with new circumstances in our life. However, if the way out of it is to look at in a new framework, then let’s get busy and do that!

A great way to look at this challenging experience is to consider it from an historical perspective. Alvin Toffler, in his book “The Third Wave″, talked about three major phases of human economic development. The first was the Agricultural Age when we worked at home and bartered with our extended community for goods and services. The second was the Industrial Age. After the invention of the steam engine we created mass production, factories and the concept of a “job”.

Because of the Industrial Age we invented technology that gave us the internet and international travel. All the rules have changed and now the whole world is our extended family.

It’s time to pick ourselves up and take matters into our own hands. Instead of spending our energy on focusing on our loss we can look at what’s needed now. We can pay attention to future trends and see where we fit in this massive movement into the future.

As soon as we can apply our thinking to what’s possible for us inside this new economy we can chart a whole new course and maybe even realize that all of this might very well bring about a much different method of “making a living”. It may be that in the midst of this destruction that something better is being born. The sooner we can stop focusing on our losses and look at what’s next, the sooner we can find a new context for living.

When we put our thoughts on what’s possible we can find many new opportunities opening up for us and we may just find that we like these new methods better. Perhaps the loss of a job is the beginning of a sense of freedom and full self expression. Maybe this is the Phoenix that will rise from the ashes of the current day.

As a result of all this turmoil we will wake up to realize it was part of some great plan bigger than ourselves. We′ll see that we continue to evolve as beings who live on this planet and the next phase of our existence will give rise to greater sense of freedom and personal self expression and we′ll be glad it happened.
